DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING

BBJI OccMed is committed to helping employers reduce the impact of substance abuse in the workplace. We offer DOT-compliant testing, non-DOT drug screens, and alcohol testing programs tailored to your organization’s needs.

 

Same-day appointments are available, with most lab-based results returned within three business days.

Leadership in Substance Abuse Prevention

Dr. John Burress has served as a Medical Review Officer (MRO) for more than 25 years and actively partners with employers to strengthen workplace substance abuse strategies. His contributions include:

​

  • Lecturing on Reasonable Suspicion practices

  • Contributing to guideline development at the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Department of Industrial Accidents in response to the opioid crisis

  • Supporting changes to the Harvard Project Labor Agreement to include fentanyl in point-of-collection testing

  • Consulting with employers to modernize and strengthen substance abuse policies

 

We strongly encourage employers to maintain clear, well-defined testing policies. Our team can assist in policy development and program design.

Federal DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing

(49 CFR Part 40)

​

Our medical assistants are certified in DOT drug and alcohol testing procedures under federal regulations.

​

We offer:

​

  • DOT Drug Screens with MRO Review
    Results are reviewed by our certified Medical Review Officer and reported directly to your Designated Employer Representative (DER).

  • DOT Collection Only
    For employers with a contracted MRO. We collect specimens using your Federal Chain of Custody Form and send the CCF and specimen to your designated laboratory. Results are sent by the lab to your designated MRO.

  • DOT Observed Collections
    Conducted strictly in accordance with 49 CFR Part 40 regulations.

 

Lab-based DOT results are typically available within three business days. MRO review of positive or non-negative results may require additional time, generally up to seven days, to ensure regulatory compliance.

Non-DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing

Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing programs are not federally regulated and can be customized to your organization’s policies and requirements.

We offer:

  • Standard Non-DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing

  • Collection Only Services for employers with their own MRO

  • Rapid Drug Screens with results available within one hour
    (Lab confirmation required for any non-negative result)

 

Testing panels can be tailored to your needs. Common options include:

​

  • Non-DOT 5 Panel: Marijuana, Amphetamines, Cocaine, Opiates, PCP

  • Non-DOT 10 Panel: 5-panel drugs plus MDMA, Oxycodone, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Methaqualone, and Propoxyphene

  • Non-DOT 12 Panel: 10-panel drugs plus Hydrocodone and Hydromorphone

  • Rapid Testing Options

    • Non-DOT 12 Panel Rapid

    • Non-DOT 12 Panel Rapid with Fentanyl and Ketamine

Responsive & Reliable

Our medical assistants monitor results daily to ensure timely reporting. Whether you require federally regulated testing, customized non-DOT programs, or rapid on-site screening, BBJI OccMed delivers efficient, compliant, and employer-focused service.

Collection-Only Services

If your company has a contracted Medical Review Officer for federal and/or non-federal testing, we can provide collection-only services. Send the employee with your Chain of Custody Form or provide our clinic with CCF forms in advance. We collect the specimen and forward it to your designated laboratory, with results reported directly to your Medical Review Officer for validation.

Rapid Drug Screens

Rapid testing is performed on-site, with results typically reported to the employer within one hour. Any non-negative rapid result requires laboratory confirmation at an extra cost.
